Our First Boot Camp Was A Hoot

Okay, we confess. It wasn’t really a “boot camp” in the traditional sense. There was no shouting (unless you count Karaoke night), no humiliation (see Karaoke…) and no missed meals (heaven forbid!). Our first Solid Cactus Boot Camp was a great time and an outstanding learning experience.

Two dozen e-commerce store owners from around the country joined us last month for 3 days of seminars ranging from design basics to search engine optimization. In between there was plenty of time for fun and interaction between the store owners. They shared tips, techniques and advice with each other.

Our in-house experts conducted seminars, and Mike Ober, Maria Melo and Marc Rossi from Yahoo! Small Business joined us for “An Afternoon with Yahoo!” Attendees heard a presentation outlining some new and exciting enhancements coming to the Yahoo! Store platform and asked questions of the Yahoo! staff.

We did a quick road trip to tour the Neeps Distribution Center where we fulfill orders for our 34 e-commerce sites, including TheFerretStore.com. We also had a reception at Solid Cactus where we introduced the team. Attendees sat down with their account managers to shoot the breeze and talk about their projects.

You know what they say about “all work and no play….” We all cheered as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins hockey team won during a night in our Luxury Box at the Wachovia Arena (I think they won…). We all laughed and joined in during an evening of Italian food and Karaoke. And we said good bye at a farewell dinner and cocktail reception at the close of the event.

Our first Boot Camp was an overwhelming success! Besides leaving about 20 pounds heavier, all of us came away with good, practical advice on how to better run our businesses.

We’re already planning our next Boot Camp and we’ll email you with details. We’ll be conducting two more in 2007 in addition to“Boot Camp@Sea” as well as a Boot Camp for our Cactus Complete Commerce customers.

In addition to in-person Boot Camps, I’m also excited to announce a complete schedule of training webinars that you can join from the comfort of your home or office. Check out our complete schedule at http://events.solidcactus.com.
