Each year at Solid Cactus’ E-commerce Boot Camp, the graduation dinner rounds out with a keynote speaker. This year, it was successful e-commerce merchant and professional magician Sam Blankenship, owner of www.trickshopmagic.com. After opening with a magic trick (using our Manager of Sales Engineering, John Tomkoski as a guinea pig– and finding out John loves Count Chocula cereal), he delved into a motivational speech about his childhood love of magic and how– after years in corporate America- he turned that passion into both a brick and mortar store and e-commerce business– in a round about way.
Blankenship’s main point of the speech was to partner with a developer you trust– because when that trust is fostered, great things can happen. In summary, Blankenship explained that clients know their own businesses, but developers like Solid Cactus know e-commerce and sometimes you just have to “let go.”
“… know what you know, and know what you DON’T know,” Blankenship advised the audience on what it means to trust your designers and programmers and account managers. “… art people need to be able to create. When that trust grows, time and cost go down.”
More on Boot Camp and this speech to come in the summer edition of the eBiz Insider magazine in my Boot Camp recap article. You can read more about Blankenship in a previous eBiz Article here, TrickShopMagic.com Seeing Magical Results After SC Redesign.
