Skygeek.Com’s On-Line Sales Take Off With Solid Cactus & Yahoo!
The Styles family of Lagrangeville, New York has been in the aviation industry since 1969 owning and operating Sky Acres Airport. President Steven Styles learned from pilots flying into his airport that there was a need for a one-stop-shop for airplane parts and pilot accessories. His plan? Open an on-line store to diversify the family business.
“Aviation is a niche market, you can’t walk down the street to find aircraft parts or pilot supplies” commented Styles. “I learned from Solid Cactus that to succeed on the Internet today, you need to appeal to a niche market and that’s exactly what we’re doing.”
Solid Cactus conducted a needs analysis and recommended that Styles use the Yahoo! Merchant Solutions platform to host his on-line store. “The learning curve for using the Yahoo! system was minimal and the functions and features available enable us to look like a big company without the expense” said Styles.
Like the aviation industry, the Internet appeals to a wide audience. Since its launch, SkyGeek.com has sent orders around the country and as far away as Bangkok.
