“I got my first computer in the second grade,” says Technical Support Manager Dave Thomas. “I learned BASIC and wrote my first computer program when I was ten. My dad brought home a computer and taught me at first. After awhile we used to have contests to see who could program best. I guess you could say I’ve always been around computers.” In other words, Dave Thomas had the perfect upbringing for an IT guy. It was no coincidence that this life-long “techie” ultimately came to Solid Cactus.
Dave followed his path through college. First it was an associate’s degree, then a BS in Information Technology. After graduation Dave spent 10 years as a field engineer, installing software and fixing networks. 8 months ago I found Solid Cactus through an internet ad. “I do a little of everything,” Dave says with a laugh. “It’s challenging. I spend most of my time helping clients with store issues. Someone will call because something isn’t working right and I’ll go in and fix it. I’m sort of the bridge between our programmers and our account managers. I like helping people solve their problems.”
Working for Solid Cactus gave Dave something which surprised him, a happy office. “Everyone here likes their job,” he says. “There is lots of positive energy at Solid Cactus and it seems we all get along. I know for me it’s nice when your bosses appreciate your efforts. This is a great place to work!”
